'This is a crisis': Perth, Ont., bracing for family doctor shortage
Julie Ireton · CBC News · Posted: Jun 28, 2019 4:00 AM ET (カナダ オンタリオ州)

The town of Perth, Ont., is bracing for the impending departure of two physicians, potentially leaving a third of the community without primary care.
In the past, when doctors left town or retired, other local physicians were able to absorb some of the patient load.
But there's no way that will be possible this time around, said Dr. Alan Drummond, who practises in the retirement community of about 6,000.

Meanwhile, a doctor service at Bargara had to close its doors due to the shortage.
Last year doctors were flown into Bundaberg from Brisbane and inter-state to help handle what was a much milder flu season.
This year with only six doctors on its list, House Call Doctor looks like it will have to do the same thing, even if doctors can be found to operate here.

A life-saving solution to America's doctor shortage
By Dr. Richard Liebowitz

Doctors are hard to come by in rural America. Nearly 20 percent of Americans live in rural communities. But only 10 percent of doctors practice there. Patients often must drive for hours to see a physician.
Such barriers to care can prove deadly. A former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently warned that “there is a striking gap in health between rural and urban Americans.” CDC research from 2017 indicates that up to 25,000 heart disease deaths and 19,000 cancer deaths could have been prevented in 2014 if rural patients had better access to health care.

UH proposes using medical students to help ease Neighbor Island doctor shortage
By Ellie Nakamoto-White | June 14, 2019 at 5:49 PM HST (米国 ハワイ州)

The University of Hawaii School of Medicine is proposing to use doctors-in-training to combat the growing physician shortage in the islands.
Under the proposal, the school would have cohorts of five to six students train at a neighbor island site ― and hope they end up wanting to stay there after graduation.
But getting the proposal off the ground won’t be cheap.
The school estimates the effort will cost about $1.4 million a year, and they’re hoping the state can foot the bill through the Board of Regents or the state legislature.

Hay River doctor shortage continues this summer
Emelie Peacock
My Yellowknife Now Monday, Jun. 24th, 2019 (カナダ ノースウェスト準州)

Hay River's medical clinic could see reduced hours throughout the summer as the town deals with a shortage of doctors.
For the week of June 24th to 28th, the town is experiencing a shortage of both doctors and nurse practitioners. Booked appointments are not available at the medical clinic and walk-in appointments are limited. Residents can refill their prescriptions Saturday, June 29th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the health centre.
