Paging Dr. Freelance: Hospitals' use of contract doctors soars amid physician shortage
STAT AUGUST 28, 2017 (米国)

These shortages take a toll on Canadians' health. Patients with no regular doctor are less likely to get annual exams or other preventive care. Many are forced to use walk-in clinics staffed with doctors who don’t know them or their medical history. And the evidence shows that there’s a strong correlation between a population with access to effective primary care providers and positive health outcomes.

The rise of the freelance doctor: Hospitals are turning to pay-per-hour staff amid 10,000 physician shortage in the US

Daily Mail‎ online 28 August 2017 (米国)

In 2015, there was a shortage of close to 10,000 physicians across the US. Hospitals are hiring freelance doctors to help make up for the shortage. Freelancing in the medical field is growing due to better benefits and the ability to make your own schedule.

Rural areas hit hardest by growing doctor shortage
Herald-Whig‎ - Aug. 19, 2017 (米国、イリノイ州)

Quincy -- A doctor shortage is looming in America, and rural medical centers are bracing themselves to take the hardest hit. Sitting at the laptop computer in his office, during a rare moment of downtime, Scotland County Hospital's Dr. Randy Tobler picked apart every aspect of the shortage, as he sees it. Cultural factors, the lack of resources in rural areas, goverment red tape, doctor burnout -- all have melded to fuel what the Association of American Medical Colleges believes could be a shortage of up to 100,000 physicians by 2025.

Doctor Shortage Under Obamacare? It Didn't Happen
New York Times‎ - AUG. 14, 2017 (米国)

When you have a health problem, your first stop is probably to your primary care doctor. If you've found it harder to see your doctor in recent years, you could be tempted to blame the Affordable Care Act. As the health law sought to solve one problem, access to affordable health insurance, it risked creating another: too few primary care doctors to meet the surge in appointment requests from the newly insured.

Dr. Gene Dorio: Doctor Shortage
KHTS Radio‎ - August 26, 2017 (米国、カリフォルニア州)

We do not have enough doctors. Passage of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) amplified this deficiency in our healthcare system. Even with new insurance in hand, many patients had no where to go, or waited months for an appointment.
There is a solution to this shortage: Enroll experienced nurses, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners in accelerated medical schools for two years…not four. Cover their tuition costs with loans and service-back-to-the-community.
