Forbes - 2015年12月29日 (USA)
There are 91 active primary care physicians per 100,000 population in the United States, but there needs to be more if Americans are going to get the right care, in the right place and at the right time, a group representing the nation's medical schools and teaching hospitals says in a new report.
The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) this week released its annual physician workforce report, which looks at the supply and makeup of U.S. physicians, as well as the general expanding state of graduate medical education in the U.S. The report drew on data that includes information from AAMC researchers as well as the American Medical Association’s “Masterfile.”New laws to ease doctor shortage see long delays, criticism
Yahoo News - 2015年12月12日 (Missouri, USA)
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A new Missouri law offered a first-of-its-kind solution to the physician shortage plaguing thousands of U.S. communities: Medical school graduates could start treating patients immediately, without wading through years of traditional residency programs.
Following Missouri's lead, similar measures were enacted in Arkansas and Kansas and considered in Oklahoma. The idea appeared to be a new model for delivering medical care in regions with too few physicians to meet needs.
Yet more than 18 months after that first law passed, Missouri regulators are still trying to make it work. And not a single new doctor has gone into practice in any of the three states as a result of the new laws.Local organizations working to fix Meaford family doctor shortage

“Yes, we have a shortage of family physicians. Dr. Weiss has now retired, and we do not believe all of Dr. McCall's patients had yet been picked up. We also have another physician who is likely going to be leaving at the end of the year,” she said. “We also do not have numbers, but we believe we could take on two more doctors and have sufficient patients to keep them occupied.”Easing Nevada's Doctor Shortage

They say this office will serve as a "center for engagement" between the physicians who work at Renown and UNR professors, and especially the students who are considering a career in medicine. There's an urgent call for something like this: Nevada's alarming shortage of doctors and nurses. Rochier calls it "A real problem, and it’s a serious problem. Depending on which survey you look at, we rank somewhere between 38th and 47th in the country in physicians per capita."
Especially primary care doctors, and nurses. Dr. Rochier has been in the medical field for 40 years now. He says he's never seen a shortage like this. UNR's Melissa Piasecki, an MD who serves as an executive associate dean told us, "We only have a few residency programs, and many of our students have to go out of state to get the training and specialty they want.".Lawmaker touts Cuban medical school as fix for rural doctor shortage
Charleston Post Courier - 2015年12月5日 (North Carolina, USA)
Just north of Greenville, farmers in rural Henderson County grow 65 percent of all the apples in North Carolina — the seventh largest aggregate crop in the country. The Ginger Golds and Pink Ladies, the Honey Crisps and more than a dozen other varieties peak on their own schedules from August through October, which is just to say that a lot of migrant apple pickers walk into the low-income clinic where Dr. Kari Koch works each fall.
