Fort Bragg clinic reassigning patients over doctor shortage
Fayetteville Observer-2015/07/29 (North Carolina, USA)

Col. Ronald Stephens, commander of Womack Army Medical Center, said the process of reassigning patients has begun and should be complete within the next few weeks. He said the reassignments are necessary because of a shortage of health care providers caused by permanent change of station orders and vacancies.
"The perfect storm has brewed and come to a head to the point where we have several thousand patients enrolled at Clark that didn't have a primary care manager," he said.

Germany Seeks Foreign Cure for Its Doctor Shortage
Wall Street Journal-2015/07/21 (ドイツ)

WERDAU, Germany— Dr. Rainer Kobes has traveled hundreds of miles in search of a cure—not for one of his patients, but for the chronic shortage of doctors in this eastern German town. Down seven residents at the 240-bed hospital here, he began heading abroad six years ago—to job fairs in Austria, the Czech Republic, and as far as Bulgaria—to recruit desperately needed staff. Now, 30% of the hospital’s doctors are foreigners, compared with none when he started, though that still isn’t enough.

The Short List: Bobbi Kristina's death; Boston's Olympic bid over; Doctor shortage
USA TODAY-2015/07/27 (USA)
There's a doctor shortage in America at the same time more of us are getting insurance and seeking care, but don't freak out, because it isn't necessarily a bad thing. What it means. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants are becoming a growing force in medicine. Why it's OK. It shines light on the high-level care that NPs and PAs have already been providing for years. A USA TODAY analysis of federal data found that NPs and PAs are getting paid more often for procedures people generally associate with doctors, such as electrocardiograms, pelvic exams and even helping with heart bypasses.

Family doctor shortage in Victoria critical, says physician
CBC.ca-2015/07/20 (Victoria, Canada)

A physician on Vancouver Island says the family doctor shortage in Victoria, B.C. has reached a critical level forcing closures at walk-in clinics.
Dr. Bill Cavers, a family physican and the past president of Doctors of B.C., says the lack of doctors in the provincial capital is so bad some walk-in clinics are taking dramatic steps.
"Some of the walk-in clinics are now shutting episodically because they can't find anybody to cover for them," said Cavers.

Solution exists for doctor shortage
The Hill-2015/07/20 (Washington DC, USA)

As referenced in the July 9 Congress Blog post “Discrimination against foreign medical schools is bad for your health,” the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) projects a nationwide shortage of between 46,000 and 90,000 physicians by 2025. However, the author, Robert Goldberg, grossly mischaracterizes the capacity of the nation’s medical schools to adequately train the number of physicians needed to meet the shortfall.
